The Power of Women’s Circles
We know that when women gather together in a circle, magic happens. When pregnant women gather in a circle, something even more potent happens. They share hopes and fears as well as aches, and pains, exchanging tips on trusted midwives, therapists and eco-friendly nappies.
When the new mamas return with their newborns, all eyes are on them as they hold their babies in their arms and share their birth and breastfeeding experiences. Women supporting women.
We are so lucky in our community to have conscious women who know how much support a new mama needs. We have postpartum doulas. We have women organising food trains for their sisters and arranging food drop-offs.
We have practitioners offering their services at community prices so that new mamas can receive the healing and realignment they need. There is free postpartum yoni steaming available at Heart and Soul.
I must say we have not made much of an effort to bring the new mamas back to Heart and Soul with their babies. When Birth Stories on Stage is done and dusted, I am looking forward to bringing back this beautiful offering, New Mama Wellness. It is such a joy to see the new mamas sharing stories while they drink tea and breastfeed their babies. And for the pregnant mamas from yoga class, learning from those who have gone before them!
In the past, we have had chiropractic care in the same room and yoni steam sessions in one of the treatment rooms. We’ve had speakers, writing sessions and clothes swaps (always popular) I have had talks with Britt about trying out mamas and babies yoga in this time slot as well.
What I especially love though, is creating the village atmosphere and the sense of community we all need, not just new mamas. If anyone feels passionate about this, would like to contribute and is available on Wednesday afternoons, I’d love to hear from you. The new mamas need YOU.
